Project Ramona: Shoe Prejudice

I had no idea that when you lose a lot of weight, your shoes don't fit anymore. Most of my shoes are too big now. I never thought my feet were especially chubby, but there is no mistaking that I'm down from a size 10 to a 9 1/2. So, I hit my fav shoe shopping spots to find something new. Everything I picked out looked like a shoe I already have. That's when I realized that I have a weight-based shoe prejudice.
When you're a big girl, polishing the toenails and fastening the straps on shoes can become frustrating chores. There was lots of padding that kept me from buying certain styles. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to spend 5 minutes trying to buckle a shoe when you're already running late? So if couldn't just slip my foot inside or simply pull the strap up onto my heel, I'd leave those shoes in the store. I even have slip-on sneakers!
Since having gastric bypass surgery at Catawba Valley Medical Center, bending over is much, much easier. Standing for long periods of time isn't painful. A whole new shoe world is opening up to me.
