Feeling Stronger

There is something powerful about weighing 232 pounds.  When I was rockin' my plus sizes and highest heels I felt like I was a FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH!  No one messed with me.  I seldom got cat calls when I was walking down the street and that was fine by me.

Things have changed since losing weight.  At gas stations, walking to my car after appearances uptown, parking lots… I'm getting a lot more attention since my gastric bypass surgery at Catawba Valley Medical Center.   A compliment from a coworker, friend, church member or fellow shopper about my new dress is more than welcome.  Cat calls from strange men when I'm out alone are very intimidating.  With a much smaller frame, the lewd comments and come-ons leave me feeling exposed, vulnerable and somewhat powerless.  I have no plans to gain the weight back and I can't just avoid going out alone.  So I have to figure out a way to regain my sense of security so I won't subconsciously sabotage my efforts to stay healthy like I've done in the past.

A few weeks ago I joined the YMCA and my goal is to work out at least 3 times a week.  When I'm lifting weights, planking or going hard on a treadmill, ellipticals or stationary bike I feel like I'm getting stronger.  So instead of insulating myself with fat, I'm working on my muscles.
