The Charlotte 49ers’ on-campus football stadium will be called Jerry Richardson Stadium, the school announced Tuesday in a news conference held on the concourse of the 15,000-seat facility.
Richardson, who owns the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, has made a $10 million donation to the school in return for the naming rights in perpetuity. It was the largest single naming rights deal in the athletic department’s history, doubling the previous high.
“Nobody asked us to do this,” Richardson said. “Charlotte is our home (and) I think athletics plays a key role in any university or college experience.
