On Friday October 3rd, employees across the country will be raising money for the American Cancer Society by wearing jeans to work.  If you'd like to be a part of the fun, go to to make a donation and sign up as an individual or as a team.  Talk to your boss and get your company involved.  The more the merrier!  And congrats to local gal Laura Reneger, a breast cancer survivor who is very active in helping others fight their battle with cancer (and she's my buddy!), she's one of three women in the country selected as an ambassador for Lee National Denim Day!  Rock those Lee Jeans Laura!



Camp Blue Skies   

I saw a news story about an overnight camp for adults with developmental disabilities and immediately wanted to get involved in fundraising.  Any adult with Down Syndrome, William's Syndrome, mild to moderate Autism, etc. are able to enjoy fun outdoor activities while developing valuable life and social skills.  The camp runs on volunteers as well as donations so if you can help in any way you can find more info on their website


Autism Society of North Carolina

Open for more than 40 years, The Autism Society of North Carolina is the only Autism-specific advocacy organization in North Carolina.  For more information click here.



Camp Royall - does amazing things at camp.  They have a counselor for every camper, and every staff member is highly educated and trained.  They desperatly need help raising funds to cover the kids with autism who's families can't afford to send them. For more information or to donate click here.

Most Valuable Kids of Charlotte Metro

Most Valuable Kids of Charlotte metro ("MVK") provides live sports and entertainment to underserved kids 18 and under.  It is also a source of positive inspiration for the kids.  MVK does this by offering charitable children's organizations access to professional and collegiate sports as well as entertainment events through an online ticket donation system.  For more information on how to donate click here.



Purses With A Purpose

My friends with the American Cancer Society need a little help getting ready for their Purses With A Purpose event on May 10th at the Ballantyne Hotel from 11:30am - 3pm. If you have new or gently used bags you'd like to donate you can drop them off at their headquarters on Brunswick Avenue.  

Cleaning For A Reason

My sister Karen sent me information about an organization that cleans houses for women undergoing cancer treatment.  Because of local cleaning companies volunteering their time and money, Cleaning For A Reason is able to help women across the U.S.  If you're sick and need help, please reach out.

The SandBox

The SandBox partners with the community to help families who have a child that has been diagnosed with cancer or life altering illness. They offer assistance to families so they can focus on their child's illness.  For more information on The Sandbox click here.



Kitty City

PJ Schantz was a first responder on 9/11 while his son was fighting for his life in an oncology ward at a Children's Hospital.  Unfortunetley his son, Dustin, lost his battle with cancer a few years after 9/11.  PJ started to help families cope with the turmoil of losing loved ones.  Some of WishGivers missions are to Help alleviate financial burdens, Bring art, music, technology and smiles to Children’s Hospitals, Give practical support to the families of critically ill children, etc. For more information or to donate to this cause visit

Ice Cream Truck helps local charity

Kool Cat Ice Cream Truck is participating in the "Ice Cream Truck Rally" (sponsored by Cookies For A Cause) to help raise money for homeless school children. Dolly Parton Imagination Library

DPIL will partner with an organization in your hometown to mail a monthly book to EVERY child from ages 0-5.  Its purpose is to help children and their families find the magic in books and become book ready for kindergarten. McGrady- The Fabulous Deaf Dog and Friends!

McGrady is a 5yo deaf Australian Shepherd adopted from Ashe County (NC) Animal Control (ACAC) in early 2010. Inspired by the shelter's kindness to him and wanting to help other dogs like himself, McGrady is the inspiration for Friends of Ashe County (NC) Animals, which helps facilitate/promote rescue and adoption of animals at ACAC. In order to help even more rural shelters, McGrady started Fabulous McGrady and Friends Foundation, a registered non-profit in NC with 501c3 paperwork in progress. McGrady is also an AmbassaDog for deaf, shelter and rescue dogs.   For more information about McGrady, please  visit his Facebook page here or website here.

The Relatives

The Relatives (part of Alexander Youth Network) is a non-profit crisis center for those ages 7-17 that do not have a place to go.  Whether one is a runaway, homeless or going through a rough patch with family, The Relatives can help.  The Relatives is partnered with SafePlace, an outreach program that educates youth about the dangers of running away or trying to resolve dangerous situations on their own.  For more info on The Relatives click here.  For more info on SafePlace click here.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte

Friends Of Quinn

Friends of Quinn is an online community that offers resources and support for young adults with learning differences, as well as for the people who love them. Founded by Quinn Bradlee, filmmaker and author of A Different Life, a book about growing up with LDs, his mission is to connect the LD world.


Girls On The Run

G.O.T.R is a non profit organization...mainly volunteer-led.  It is geared towards young girls from 3rd to 8th grade.  It's main goal is to empower them to go beyond their own expectations.  Training for a 5K run with fun, build a collection of positive experiences and inspire life-changing confidence through accomplishment are just a few things GOTR do when meeting twice a month.  For More info or to volunteer click here.

Got Your 6 Campaign

"Got your 6" is a national campaign sponsored by the entertainment industry.  It is geared towards helping create new conversations among individuals in America.  In hopes to spark interest towards veterans and military families where they are perceived as both leaders and civic assets.  Check out the website here.


March of Dimes

March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that is geared towards improving the health of babies and mothers.  It was originally founded by former President Franklin D. Rosevelt in 1938 who suffered from polio.  For more information or to find a local chapter click here 



"Love, Loss and Laughter" slideshow

If you have a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's- you need to see the pictures from the amazing slideshow.  The pictures come from the book  "Love, Loss and Laughter" By: Cathy Greenblat, PhD.  She shows another side of Alzheimer's- one in which people with the disease can still lead active and joyful lives.



This is a national charity created by a grieving mom who lost her young son to a brain tumor.  The organization pays household bills for families with sick children- so they can stay in the hospital with their child and not worry about rent/mortgage, utilities, etc.  98% of every donation goes directly to help families.  Click here to donate to!

National Autism Association

For those that do not know... Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder.  Anyone can develop Autism and a lot of times it is misdiagnosed.  Males are four times more likely to develop Autism than females.  For more information click here.
