Daily Dilemma- Toddlers In Restaurants

Hey Kelly,

I need some advice from other parents on how to keep a toddler occupied while at a restaurant.  My 3 year old makes it really difficult for me and my husband to go out to dinner, which is really unfair to our 7 year old who's said recently that she got to have more fun before her brother was born.  I've tried Cheerios and fruit snacks along with his favorite toys, still he freaks out anytime we try to grab a bit outside of the house.

Wanting A Quiet Dinner Out

Dear Wanting,

I think you need to do what most moms do these days- give your son your iPhone or iPad to play with when you're out to dinner.  I'm sure you can download a game that he can master in no time, but make sure to keep a close eye on him so he doesn't drop his new $500 toy!  If you don't have a smart phone or tablet computer try to find something similar, made for children, in the toy department at Target.  There's got to be something you can find to take his mind off of tantrums for at least an hour.

Best of luck,

Kelly McKay
