Dear Kelly,
I'm trying to talk some sense into my mother who is in her 60's and has terrible balance and a love of high heels. I can't tell you how many time she's sprained her ankles over the years but now, at her age, I'm worried that she'll fall off her shoes and break a hip! She wears heels no matter how she's dressed or where she's going. If she needs to run to the store for a gallon of milk she'll put heels on with her sweats. I've even seen her work in the garden in heels- pointing out to me after I rolled my eyes at the sight of her that they were a practical height for yard work.
Can you help?
My Mom Is Nuts!
Dear M.M.I.N.,
Your mom is a hoot! I'd love to see a picture of her rocking out her sexy heels while sporting sweats and a sweat shirt at Harris Teeter! Although sure to be a funny sight, I can understand your concern. Barbara Walters recently injured herself and was hospitalized because she fell up the stairs while wearing heels. Statistically, 1 out of every 3 women has been injured when wearing high heels- many even suffered broken bones. Yet a survey showed that 6 out of 10 women would risk injury in order to wear their heels. Bottom line: leave her be. We learn by doing. Let's just hope she suffers a mild sprain and not a broken hip!
Keep me posted,
Kelly McKay
