Stuff I've Talked About

Daily Dilemma- Neighborhood Trespasser

Dear Kelly,

Is it considered trespassing for someone to walk through your yard every day?  A neighbor refuses to take the sidewalk and has worn a path in my side yard in an attempt to make his walk to work shorter every day.  I was thinking of setting up traps for him to step into but then someone told me that he could sue me if he got injured on my property.  If that's the case, how can businesses use electric fences or fences with barbed wire on the top?

Sincerely,

Take The Sidewalk!

Dear T.T.S.,

People are so rude that it sometimes takes all my willpower to resist the urge to smack them upside the head!  I agree that you should not set traps in your yard for the sidewalk hater, but catching him in the act might put a stop to it.  Don't be hateful or yell at him, simply ask him to not walk through your yard anymore as he's wearing a path in your grass.  Once you see how he reacts to your request you can decide what to do from there.  Either go on with your business and trust he'll respect your property, or call the non-emergency police number to ask for advice on what to do next.

Good Luck!

Kelly McKay
