My wife is driving me nuts and I don't know what to do. On more than one occasion she has called me at work to tell me there was an emergency at home. Then, after rushing home and nearly killing myself in the process, I find out that she just needed to go to the store but the baby was sleeping and she didn't want to wake him. First of all, I don't understand the big deal about waking a sleeping baby. Second, do you think something is wrong with her? I mean, she always acts really nervous and stressed over every little thing. Our son is 6 months old and I'm hoping she doesn't behave this way until he's in kindergarten!
Had To Vent
Your wife may be dealing with some postpartum issues so I recommend you go with her to her next doctors appointment and explain the situation to her physician. If the doctor thinks all is well with her hormones and mental status then it's likely she's just a new mom who is terrified to stray from the "schedule". So many first-time moms read books about bringing home baby and then try to follow them to the letter. They forget that not every baby is the same and not every baby has to eat the same amount at the same time, nor sleep for a solid two hours in the middle of the day- every day. Although most human beings don't like being woken up out of a sound sleep, I can't imagine that waking a sleeping baby would do any harm at all- other than make the child mad enough to cry for a few minutes.
Hang in there!
