I'm a 30 year old professional male with a great job and a flare for fashion. Because I enjoy looking good and try to avoid wearing jeans and t-shirts, my grandpa thinks I'm gay. He and I are very close and I do try to see him at least once a week, but I'm getting really tired of him telling me that it's okay for me to come out of the closet. On Thanksgiving, in front of the entire family, he announced to everyone that I'm into guys. Then he said that I shouldn't be shy about bringing my boyfriends over everyone would be supportive and not make too many jokes in front of him. Besides having sex with a woman right in front of him, I don't know how to convince him that I'm straight.
Not Into Guys
Dear Not Into,
I don't think you should worry about what your grandpa thinks. He's probably having a little fun with you, at this point, as I'm sure he knows he's hit a nerve. If I were you, I'd invite a pal over for dinner with gramps some time and introduce him as the man you plan to marry. See how he reacts to that. As for convincing him that you're straight, don't waste your energy. Even if you don't want to play his game just ignore him. At his age, he's got to have some fun when he can!
