Hats off to Lady Gaga, who celebrates her 29th birthday today!

The past year has been a great one for Mother Monster, from her foray into jazz with Tony Bennett on their Grammy-winning "Cheek to Cheek" to her jaw-dropping "Sound of Music" tribute at the Oscars.

Not only that, but on Valentine's Day this year, Gaga got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, "Chicago Fire" star Taylor Kinney.

Though she hasn't released an album in 2013, she's recently reunited with RedOne -- who produced "Poker Face," "Bad Romance" and "Alejandro" to name a few -- to work on new material.

While she's on top of the world, Gaga is no overnight success. However, “Born This Way” in 1986, Stefani Germanotta was musical right from the start. After a brief stint at NYU, the young singer dropped out to pursue her singing career fulltime.

After years of hustling and a few years spent writing tracks for artists like The Pussycat Dolls, Fergie, and Britney Spears, she was discovered by Akon and signed to Interscope Records.

Lady Gaga stormed onto the pop music scene with her breakout single “Just Dance” was released in 2008. Though it took some time to get some airplay, she knew what she was doing right from the start, and the song began to climb the Billboard Hot 100.

Gaga then became an overnight sensation, with her debut album “The Fame,” featuring hits like “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Paparazzi.” From there, she released a follow-up EP, “The Fame Monster,” when she solidified her persona and grew her fanbase of Little Monsters.

Mother Monster continued to surprise with outrageous outfits ranging from meat dresses to exotic headpieces, not to mention her wild awards show performances, including the iconic moment when she hatched from an egg to take the stage.

Just when it seemed like her star could rise no further, Gaga dropped her 2011 album “Born This Way.” The LP sold more than a million copies in just one week and wowing the world with truly original songs like “The Edge of Glory” and “You and I,” the latter of which inspired a male alter ego known as Jo Calderone.

After being sidelined from her Born This Way Ball Tour with a hip injury, the pop superstar was out of commission for most of last year. Yet she rose like a phoenix, releasing “Artpop” with her leadoff single “Applause.”

So happy birthday to Lady Gaga! We’re sure she’ll have our jaws on the ground again in no time.
