“The Vampire Diaries”
have said goodbye to its fair share of characters over the past five seasons.

But last night, the show pulled off one of the most high-profile resurrections in TV history. Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t seen last night’s season finale, look away now!

On Thursday night’s season finale, the veil to the other side was down long enough for Alaric (Matt Davis) to sneak through.

The actor is not only alive and well, but “TV Guide” reports that he’ll return as a series regular when the show’s sixth season premieres this fall.

Alaric, introduced as a teacher and secret vampire hunter, was killed off in season three, as the star was looking to pursue other projects.

Following the cancellation of the CW’s “Cult” last year, Davis was freed up to return to “TVD.”

Unfortunately, the fates of two other series regulars – Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) – were left up in the air.

Are you glad that Alaric is back? Are you afraid Damon and Bonnie are gone for good? Weigh in on the finale and that twist in the comments!
