The Mother's Day weekend is fast approaching, so we thought it was important to celebrate the fact that being a mom can be a full-time job in and of itself. So, in that vein, we thought we’d pay homage to those hardworking TV moms that have made us laugh throughout the years:

Phylicia Rashad as Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show

Perhaps better than anyone else on this list, Clair Huxtable knew how to have it all. As a successful lawyer in her own right, Clair and her hubby, Cliff (the unparalled Bill Cosby), were always equals in their marriage. Not only did they take a balanced role in parenting their five children, they also took turns teaching their doofus son-in-law Elvin a thing or do about rethinking his sexist attitude. Never letting her job or her relationship with her family fall off the table, Clair was always able to show off her softer side. TV Land has two “Cosby Show” marathons planned for the weekend, including Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

   Roseanne Barr in “Roseanne”

For 9 seasons, Roseanne Barr played the mother to a blue collar family who struggled with all of life’s problems: money, marriage and family.  She and her husband, played by the great John Goodman, along with their three children, Darlene, D.J. and Becky represented a kind of family that had never really been seen on television before. Over the years, Roseanne had many jobs, from factory worker to waitress to small business owner, yet she always had time to be a tough-but-loving presence in the lives of her kids.

Katey Sagal as Peggy Bundy in “Married... with Children

Katey Sagal pulled off Peggy Bundy to a T on the long-running FOX comedy “Married... with Children (1987-1997).  Unlike most of the other moms on this list, Peg had a different approach to parenting, refusing to cook or clean. She may not have been domestic, but she could certainly rock that wonderful red wig and her outlandish outfits, and though they may not have shown it often, she and husband Al (Ed O’Neill) showed their kids how to make a marriage work. Things seemed to turn out okay, because her TV daughter was none other than Christina Applegate, whose time on the show made her a big star!

4.   Jane Kaczmarek
as Lois in “Malcolm in the Middle"

Jane Kaczmarek played a similarly strict mother on FOX’s “Malcolm in the Middle (2000-2006).  As her character is the only female in a family of four boys, with husband Hal (“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston) as a close fifth, Lois is doesn’t mince words when it comes to disciplining her kids, which generally leads to the embarrassment to her children: Francis, Reese, Dewey and of course Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz.  Still, Lois would do anything for her kids, this outspoken mom is one you definitely do not want to cross.

Mary Louise-Parker as Nancy Botwin in “Weeds

Nancy Botwin, played by Mary-Louise Parker on Showtime’s “Weeds,” began as a mother of two who gets caught up in the world of dealing drugs after her husband dies. That changed, as she soon got sucked into the world, trading a light hobby business for a life of crime and a marriage to a Mexican druglord before doing time and trying to make things right with her kids in the end. She lied and cheated and did genuinely terrible things, but Nancy also proved that women could have just as much fun being bad as the men on any cable TV show. Nancy may not have been the best or most moral parent on this or any list, but you can’t say she wasn’t hardworking. Slightly NSFW:
