Rocky Balboa is taking a much-deserved break from top-lining feature films, but the franchise will live on.
According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” filmmaker Ryan Coogler is making a film centered on the legacy of Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers in the “Rocky” films.
Rising star Michael B. Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”) and Sylvester Stallone, who played the title character in all of the movies, which will focus on “the boxer’s family and where they are now, years on from Creed’s highs and lows in the ring…”
Coogler explained that he went to Sly Stallone himself with the concept and got his “blessing.” He and Jordan previously worked together on “Fruitvale,” which he wrote and directed.
Though it has since been adapted for Broadway, the most recent movie in the franchise, “Rocky Balboa,” bowed in 2006, following the aging character getting back in the ring three decades after the original.
