While the brunt young adult adaptations seem to be opting for dystopian futures, “If I Stay” is aiming a little bit closer to home.
The forthcoming film, adapted from Gayle Forman’s YA novel, stars Chloe Grace Moretz as a brilliant young cellist who falls for a boy when a car crash leaves her comatose, Deadline reports.
From there Moretz’s character has an out of body experience, dealing with the words of wisdom from a hospital worker.
“Here’s the secret, baby. If you live, if you die, it’s all up to you. So whatever fight you got in you you gotta pull it out now,” the woman whispers in her ear.
Jamie Blackley plays her boyfriend and “The Killing” actress Mireille Enos plays her mother.
Lauren Lee Smith, Aisha Hinds (“Under the Dome”) and Joshua Leonard also star in the film, which opens on August 22.
