For better or for worse, there might be a sequel to the cult classic “The Goonies.”
TMZ reports that the original film’s director, Richard Donner, is not only planning a follow-up to the 28-year-old film, but he wants the cast to return as well.
Donner did not state whether the stars would reprise their roles in the long-rumored sequel or if those roles would be recast.
One star who isn’t so sure about the idea is Corey Feldman, who tweeted that he ran into Donner a few months ago.
Feldman states that writer-director Chris Columbus (“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Home Alone”), who wrote the “Goonies” screenplay, might be “helping out.”
Beyond that, the veteran actor said the only way he’ll do it is if it has the right script that “doesn’t miss the magic of the original.”
His “Goonies” co-star, Sean Astin, kept it short and sweet but seemed ever more optimistic, quoting the film:
