LOS ANGELES, CA - MARCH 17: R&B singer Chris Brown appears in court with his attorney Mark Geragos for a probation violation hearing during which his probation was revoked by a Los Angeles Superior judge on March 17, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The singer was arrested March 14, 2014 and is being held without bail. Brown was first placed on probation after the 2009 domestic violence case in which he plead guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna.

is going on a cross-country trip, but this is no vacation.

CNN reports that the singer will be flown to Washington, D.C. in the custody of federal marshals in order to face charges in regard to an alleged assault last fall.

Brown, 24, could travel for up to two weeks ahead of the April 17 court date, as he will take “a series of government planes that hopscotch across the country taking inmates from prison to prison,” a U.S. Marshals Service spokeswoman told CNN.

If convicted, the judge will reportedly rule on April 23 whether he’ll serve out his probation in jail.

When the court date was set, it was unclear whether he would be able to appear in court, as he had been sent back to prison for violating the rules of his rehab facility.

Brown was advised to enter rehab in order to avoid jail time, but after being ordered to stay beyond the original 90-day stint for anger management and drugs, he was booted in early March.
