She might not be Cinderella, but could Emma Watson be the Little Mermaid?
Sofia Coppola seemed like a unique choice to helm the forthcoming adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Little Mermaid,” but all questions will fall by the wayside if Watson is cast in the title role.
The duo worked together on the much-hyped “The Bling Ring,” which had a solid release last year.
When asked about the rumors that she would play Ariel, the actress told “Variety” that she hadn’t been offered the part yet, but she’s a fan.
“I actually dressed up as Ariel for my fifth birthday,” she said. “I mean I’d have to read it first… I love Sofia so much.”
The “Harry Potter” alum was originally attached to play the title role against Cate Blanchett’s evil stepmother in Kenneth Branagh’s “Cinderella,” but the role has since been filled by Lily James (“Downton Abbey”).
Watson is currently doing press for “Noah,” which stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and her “Perks of Being a Wallflower” co-star Logan Lerman.
