“Sharknado 2: The Second One” is shaping up to be even more comedic than the original, thanks to the casting of a slew of comic stars.
Joining the returning Ian Ziering and Tara Reid are Vivica A. Fox, “Fashion Police” star Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”) and Judd Hirsch, according to Deadline.
The original “Sharknado” – which exploded on social media after garnering stellar ratings for Syfy -- became a cult hit last year and even received midnight showings in several cities.
The follow-up is expected to kick off filming next week, and the network is eyeing a July release for the television film.
Per Deadline, the tongue-in-cheek horror sequel will follow “a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a ‘sharknado’ on the city’s population and its most iconic sites,” with Ziering and Reid’s characters returning to save the day.
