Will Smith is choosing his independence over an "Independence Day" sequel.
The actor has reportedly passed on the chance to return for a follow-up to his 1996 blockbuster.
According to Deadline, Smith is also likely done with the “Men In Black” franchise, which is also in the midst of a reboot.
Despite his decision not to return for an “ID4” sequel, the project is still expected to go, as the writers are believed to have written two versions of the script, one with and one without Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller.
While it’s unfortunate that the actor has chosen to leave two of his most successful franchises behind, it’s not like he won’t be busy.
Following the release of his new film, “Winter’s Tale,” on Valentine’s Day, Smith will next star in “Focus” opposite Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”).
