Belieb it: Justin Bieber IS retiring. At least that's what the singer said in a Christmas Eve tweet -- before recanting it, somewhat, a bit later.

Bieber -- whose new concert film, "Believe," opened on Christmas day, told an interviewer last week that he was "probably going to quite music," although his manager Scooter Braun quickly chimed in that Bieber was "just kidding" and would only be "taking a break just to make music and relax, take some time for himself for the first time since he was 12."

Bieber's Christmas Eve tweet, however, said unequivocally that "My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring."

Then, 42 minutes later, he posted another tweet explaining that "The media talks a lot about me. They make up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle."

Two minutes later, he wrote, "Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER."

What it all means -- other than keeping tongues wagging, fans guessing and generating extra publicity for the "Believe" film -- remains to be seen.

Bieber has also released "Journals," a compendium of his Music Mondays songs plus some videos and a "Believe" trailer, this week via iTunes.
