As she says in one of the new songs off her smash self-titled album, Beyonce is certainly a “Grown Woman.”
That said, the 32-year-old superstar was no less afraid of releasing “Beyonce” with no promotion in a risky move earlier this month.
“I was terrified. I was so scared. I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen,” she told Billboard Saturday. “I was really nervous because this was a huge risk.”
Of course, the move paid off, as the album is expected to top the Billboard 200 for a second week in a row.
But Queen Bey was scared not only for the sales of the album, but because she says she went to a more deeply personal place on the new record.
“I’m very private and I’m very respectful, and I think it just look me no longer being someone’s child – once I became a mother, I felt like I could tear those fourth walls and I just felt like it was time,” she said. “I completely feel liberated.”
The singer was also excited to show growth in her musical style with the album, which she said challenged her and made her realize that she wants her “legacy to inspire people.”
