As the controversy surrounding the suspension of Phil Robertson from “Duck Dynasty” continues to swirl his family has expressed their support in a new statement.

On their official website, the family posted a message to fans defending his comments and updating them on the show’s future.

“While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible,” the statement reads, adding, “We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.”

Robertson’s family members suggest that the future of their top-rated A&E series is in jeopardy, noting, “We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm.”

In “GQ,” Robertson allegedly compared homosexuality to bestiality and extramarital affairs, as well as saying of African Americans:

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person… I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’  – not a word!...Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you saw: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Conversations between A&E and the Robertsons about the next steps for “Duck Dynasty” are ongoing.
