Spider-Man’s world is about the get a whole lot bigger.
Deadline reports that Sony has placed two new “Spider-Man” spinoff films in development in the hopes of expanding that corner of the Marvel universe.
The first is a film centered on “The Sinister Six,” a group of villains who gang up to take on Spidey.
The move is relatively unsurprising, as new “Amazing Spider-Man 2” trailers and posters have hinted at the introduction of several of the group’s members, including Jamie Foxx’s Electro.
Coming a little out of left field is the “Venom” movie, which would follow the villain first introduced on-screen by Topher Grace in “Spider-Man 3.”
While the character was being considered for its own standalone film during the Sam Raimi franchise, the mixed reaction to the third film put the kibosh on a “Venom” film for the time being.
The news also lends credence to franchise star Andrew Garfield’s statements about the fourth “Spider-Man” film having “nothing to do with” him, though he will be back for “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” in 2016.
