With more than 18 million people tuning in for NBC’s three-hour live “Sound of Music” event, the network plans to start a new tradition.

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt told the “New York Times” this week that they are already at work on deciding what next year’s holiday musical might be.

“All weekend, people have been calling us and emailing us,” he said. “Rights holders of musicals have said, ‘Please do one of our shows.’ We’re excited to try it again.”

Greenblatt thinks the concept of these live TV musical events has long-term potential, adding that while the first one took 18 months, they’re more prepared for repeats.

“There may be a little bit of a phenomenon to the first one of these,” he explained. “Who know what happens Year 2, 3, or 4?”
