On the heels of the success of “The Walking Dead” over at AMC, FX’s latest drama series features a different – yet no less terrifying – outbreak.
Though the 30-second spot does not feature any core characters, it does feature a horde of infected rats being followed by a pair of videographers.
The FX series from Guillermo del Toro is set to debut in July 2014 and will follow a CDC team “investigating a viral outbreak that has a link to an ancient strain of vampirism,” according to Zap2it.
The show is based on a trilogy of novels written by del Toro and Hogan, centering on Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll, “House of Cards”), the head of the CDC’s Canary Team in charge of determining the source of the outbreak.
As far as the comparison goes, the first trailer for “The Strain” actually premiered during the midseason finale of the AMC smash hit, which returns on Sunday, February 9.
The drama also stars a slew of sci-fi/fantasy vets, including Sean Astin (“Lord of the Rings”), Natalie Brown (“Bitten”), Kevin Durand (“The Mortal Instruments”) and “The Twilight Saga” star Mia Maestro.
