With so many movies being released throughout the year, it can be hard to keep track. To help, check out our preview of the movies that are opening this weekend:
“The Best Man Holiday”: It’s been 14 years since “The Best Man” was released in 1999, but most of the original cast is back. According to the official press release, the college pals will reunite after nearly 15 years over the Christmas holidays, so expect old romances and rivalries to be rekindled. Taye Diggs returns, along with Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall. Rated R.
“Charlie Countryman”: Shia LaBeouf stars as the titular character in this innovative new drama, opening in limited release. Charlie hops a plane to Bucharest, when sets off a chain of events when the passenger next to him dies unexpectedly. After meeting the man’s daughter, played by Evan Rachel Wood, Charlie falls in love, but in order to be with her, he must face off against a gangster. To do so, he “enters the hallucinatory, Romanian underworld filled with violence and, strangely enough, love. Rated R.
“Dallas Buyers Club”: This independent film has been garnering a great deal of critical interest, in no small part because of the drastic physical transformations by two of its stars, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. The film follows real-life Texas electrician Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), who develops an alternative treatment to HIV after being diagnosed in 1986. Jennifer Garner also stars as a physician who helps in his efforts. Rated R.
