Octavia Spencer
, amateur P.I., is on the case.

The Help” actress has signed on for a potential reboot of “Murder, She Wrote” at NBC, Deadline reports.

The updated series would follow “a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth (Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel.”

The original “Murder, She Wrote” starred Angela Lansbury and debuted in 1984, running twelve seasons on CBS and spawning four TV movies, most recently in 2003’s “Murder, She Wrote: The Celtic Riddle.”

“Octavia and I are both huge true crime buffs, amateur criminologists, and fans of Angela Lansbury,” said former “Desperate Housewives” producer Alex Cunningham, who will be writing the pilot. “To get the chance to reimagine ‘Murder, She Wrote’ for a dynamic and multi-faceted actress like Octavia is a thrill and a pleasure.”

If the project goes to series, it would mark Spencer’s first series regular role on a television series. Currently recurring on CBS’s “Mom,” the actress met with NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, explaining that her dream TV role would be “J.B. Fletcher meets Colombo.”

What do you think of the plan for the reboot? Are you holding out for a guest appearance from Angela Lansbury?
