With Prince George’s christening set to take place in London today, it was only a matter of time before the baby’s godparents were announced.
Though it is royal custom for the child to have several godparents, both men and women, not everyone can make the cut.
Yet it’s still surprising that George’s aunt and uncle, Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry, were not named on the list released by Kensington Palace, according to “Us Weekly.”
Instead, the list features William’s first cousin, Zara Phillips, his childhood friend, William van Cutsem, and Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the royal couple’s former Private Secretary.
The late Princess Diana’s close friend Julia Samuel was also given the honor, as was the couple’s friends from college, Oliver Baker and Emilia Jardine-Paterson, along with Earl Grosvenor.
The seven godparents will be among only 22 people attending the event, along with the royal couple and George’s maternal godparents, the Middletons.
