Lady Gaga is the latest pop star unveiling new tracks leading up to the big release of her third LP, “Artpop,” next month.
Though “Do What U Want” is not the singer’s follow-up single to “Applause,” she released the R. Kelly-featuring track Monday night to give her Little Monsters a deeper look into her new record.
Along with the track, Gaga showed off the song’s racy cover image, a photo of what appears to be the back of the singer wearing nothing but G-string underwear.
Leading up to the release of “Do What U Want” at midnight, the singer teased the song by fighting back against some of the most significant criticism she has received over the years, from weight gain to drug use and comparisons to fellow pop icons Madonna and Katy Perry.
Gaga attached lyrics to the new song to those critiques, along with her responses:
As for the fact that “Applause” didn’t debut at #1, Gaga tweeted, “KATY IS BETTER THAN HER! #UWontUseMyMind I write for the music not the charts.”
