5 Things You May Not Know About Valentine's Day

February 14, 2018

Yay for Valentine's Day unless you are a complete bitter Betty and hate the holiday. On my way to work this morning, I saw the florist delivery vans making their runs to drop off all the roses and other goodies. I also saw a man walking through uptown with a huge balloon bouquet.

I will resist going on another rant about how this is just some super commercial holiday and instead share with you some Valentine's Day fun facts that you may not know.

1. More than one billion Valentine's Day cards are sold each year, making it the second busiest greeting card period of the year, behind only Christmas. BTW, if you're giving that special someone a card this year, make sure you write at least four sentences because that's the bare minimum effort you need to put into it.

2. About three percent of pet owners give a Valentine's Day gift to their pets. (My cats aren't getting anything for Valentine's Day)

3. In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine’s Day card. So I guess it was a mystery for some who gave them a card?

4. Physicians of the 1800s commonly advised their patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining for lost love.

5. If you’re single, don’t despair. You can celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD) instead. Hmm, I wonder if it's SAD for a reason?

If you're single this Valentine's Day, you can celebrate a night with your best friends instead. It will cost you a whole lot less. Or just do something for yourself!
