The Death Of The Diet

No wonder so many people are overweight- diets are on the decline! In 1991, more than 30% of Americans reported being on a diet. In 2012, that number decreased to 20%. Some experts cite greater acceptance of larger bodies. In a survey, more people in 1985 than in 2012 agreed with the statement that overweight people are less attractive than thin people, suggesting Americans’ attitude about weight has changed over time. Others chalk it up to laziness- these days, people are less likely to stick to a diet for more than six months. Still others argue that the term “diet” has simply fallen out of favor- while people are still making an effort to improve their eating habits, they’re considering it a lifestyle change instead of a diet in the traditional sense.
